Mateschitz backs Kvyat to adapt quickly

Red Bull owner Dietrich Mateschitz believes Daniil Kvyat has what it takes to emulate the likes of Kimi Raikkonen or Felipe Massa when it comes to adapting to F1.

Red Bull raised a few eyebrows when they decided to overlook the more experienced Antonio Felix da Costa and hand the 19-year-old Kvyat a Toro Rosso race seat for the 2014 season.

Many believe Kvyat's inexperience will count against him as he has only competed in Formula 3/GP3, but Mateschitz likened the situation to when Raikkonen and Massa made their debuts for Sauber with hardly any mileage at the highest level under their belts.

"If you look on Raikkonen or Massa, how quickly they adjusted with little experience in minor formulae to F1, Kvyat can do this too, we believe," he is quoted as saying by Autosport.

"We watched how Daniil improved in F3 and GP3 this season, [and] his progress was remarkable in many ways.

"We also gained the impression that he got more mature, from a boy to a young man.

"Felix had his ups and downs: he was sometimes very quick but not in a constant way.

"Finally, Kvyat is only 19 and da Costa 22 - that fact made the decision easier." <<source>>

Raikkonen no show for media appointments in Abu Dhabi fuels speculation

Kimi Raikkonen’s strained relationship with his Lotus Formula One team was back in the spotlight on Thursday after the Finn failed to turn up for media interviews at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.

A team spokesman said the 2007 world champion, who is joining Ferrari at the end of the season, was flying in later and would be at the track for Friday practice after returning to Europe following last weekend’s race in India.

Despite the explanation, the no-show still triggered speculation in the paddock about a breakdown in relations between team and driver following an angry exchange during the Indian race.

Raikkonen has skipped Thursday sessions before, notably in Belgium in August when the team said he was sick although most in the paddock felt it had more to do with wanting to avoid tiresome questions about his future.

The Finn, who won his title with Ferrari and is renowned for his dislike of media sessions, has also cited late or non-payment of his full wages as one of the reasons for his departure from the team.

At the Indian Grand Prix, Lotus trackside operations manager Alan Permane told Raikkonen in strong language to get out of the way of team mate Romain Grosjean – and received another profanity in return.

Team principal Eric Boullier apologised for the incident this week and said it would not happen again.

Although both titles have been decided, with Red Bull and Sebastian Vettel taking their fourth successive championships, Lotus are still in with a shout of second place in the constructors’ standings and need Raikkonen to play a part in that battle.

Lotus are 24 points behind third-place Ferrari and 28 adrift of second placed Mercedes with three races remaining.

Raikkonen is third overall, having scored 183 points, while Grosjean is seventh with 102 but has finished his last three races on the podium. (Reuters)  <<source>>

It’s an amazing facility and it looks so impressive. It’s not used as much as some circuits over the course of the year so we know we’re going to get lower grip at the start of the weekend. For me, the layout is not my favourite – there are too many second gear corners for my liking – but not every circuit can be your favourite and the E21 certainly seems to be liking every track at the moment! <<Read more>>

Here's a new mod True to Life AI – which corrects numerous issues and notably improves the standard F1 2013 ™ by Codemasters. Thanks to Snthennumbers for this awesome mod.

DESCRIPTION

• Corrected braking points and cornering speed for the AI across all tracks
• AI aggression is increased
• AI retirement rate is more realistic
• Reduced the "Out of Sight" bug
• Created a revised tyre wear model giving more individual wear characteristics to each track
• Increased damage sensitivity for Player and AI
• Adjusted tyre wear rates for all teams to lower the variation
• Lowered fuel consumption by 3.5% for all tracks, giving Player (I am assuming this affects the AI too) a little more flexibilty with mix 3
• Lowered the penalty system's sensitivity towards collisions
• Enabled 99 flashbacks
• Safety Car performance has been lowered to allow all cars to catch up to the queue
• Adjusted engine and gearbox wear rates so the wear on the car feels more tangible over a race weekend
• Unlocked top 7 teams after the Young Driver's Test (see details in Young Driver's Test Section)

It is recommended that you do a complete reinstallation (not just a Steam file verification) of the game before installing this mod to ensure there are no leftover components from other mods left behind.

In order to get the best competition against the AI, it is recommended that you make only minor adjustments to your gear ratios and aerodynamics when setting up your car. This is because it is too difficult to create custom car setups for the AI and these 2 setup components give the largest performance advantages over the AI.

This mod will not work with online gameplay.

• Scaled pitstop times per team more appropriately so there wasn’t such a large variation
• Lowered fuel usage per lap by 3.5% for every track
• Corrected AI qualifying times during time acceleration across all tracks
• Lowered penalty system sensitivity towards collisions

Marussia: Rewarding to see continued steps forward with our race pace

The Marussia F1 Team notched up another strong two-car finish in today’s 2013 Formula 1™ Airtel Indian Grand Prix, following a thrilling split-strategy duel between Jules Bianchi and Max Chilton. In the end it was Max who triumphed, taking P18 with only a hair’s breadth – 0.7s – between him and his team-mate.

Max was eager to maintain his record of finishing every race so far this season, but despite a fantastic start off the line, his chances hung in the balance for a while after he was struck from behind by the Caterham of van der Garde. A lap later Max was fighting an issue on the left rear wheel and it looked like he may not be able to continue. Thankfully, the problem improved over the course of the next few laps, allowing him to recover and find some impressive pace. Having started on the Medium tyre, he completed a two-stop race with a final six-lap stint on the Soft tyre. In strategic terms he was neck and neck with Jules at this point in the race but Max gave it all he had in the final laps on the Medium tyre and after the switch he emerged from the pit lane just 0.8s ahead.

Jules also got off to a strong start. In contrast to Max he began his race on the Soft tyre, switching to the Medium tyre after 5 laps. He drove the perfect race, maintaining a good gap ahead of the remaining Caterham of Pic until he too retired, along with his team-mate. Unfortunately for Jules, a pit stop delay cost him 11 seconds, which made all the difference at the end of the race. <<source>>

How Vettel can claim the title in India

Red Bull driver Sebastian Vettel is on the verge of a fourth successive world title at the Buddh International Circuit, but what are the permutations? GPUpdate.net has put together a brief reminder ahead of what could be another historic day for Formula 1.

Vettel will claim the title if:

• Alonso wins, with Vettel fifth or higher
• Alonso finishes second, with Vettel eighth or higher
• Alonso finishes third or lower
• Alonso retires from the race

Massa warns that he is prepared to ignore team orders again

Felipe Massa has warned he still will not move over for Ferrari teammate Fernando Alonso in the remaining few races of his career with the Maranello outfit.

The Brazilian, who is looking for an alternative drive for 2014, was ordered to let Alonso pass recently at Suzuka, but refused.

“I do not consider it a disrespect to be asked to let Fernando past,” Massa told the Spanish sports newspaper Marca. ”But, as in Suzuka, I will race for myself.”

The 32-year-old, reportedly in contention to move to Williams next year, said his attitude will actually help rather than hinder Ferrari.

“What I am looking for is to get as many points as possible to help maintain the second position in the constructors’ championship,” said Massa.

“I will try to finish in the best position I can,” he said in India. <<source>>

Indian Grand Prix - Sauber: We still have a lot of work to do

It was a normal Friday for the Sauber F1 Team during the first two practice sessions at the Buddh International Circuit. While Nico Hülkenberg showed better pace, Esteban Gutiérrez was not as satisfied with his C32 today. The team was able to gather a lot of valuable tyre data and still has some work to do, especially to improve the performance on the soft tyre compound.

Nico Hülkenberg:

Sauber C32-Ferrari (Chassis 03/Ferrari 056)

1st Practice: 9th / 1:27.770 min (19 laps) / 2nd Practice 14th / 1:27.491 min (40 laps)

“Today was quite a good Friday. No big dramas, stable weather, and good running. We were able to work through the whole programme, so that was good. We collected some good tyre data, which is always most important on a Friday. Regarding the performance on the Medium tyres, I’m quite happy with the car. On the Soft tyre compound I think, we still need to work a bit and find better solutions for the set up. On both the low and high fuel runs it wasn’t ideal. Tomorrow I think we will be able to push for the top ten.”

Esteban Gutiérrez:

“It was a very complicated day. We were trying to find out exactly where we stood on the track and it’s been quite challenging, because the pace is just not there, neither on the high or the low fuel. I am not happy with the way the car is handling and the way it feels. I’m not very confident at the moment. Obviously, I was trying to do my best to put everything together, but we are missing quite a lot. The most surprising thing was the lack of pace in the long runs. The degradation on the Soft tyre was quite high. Also, on the Medium tyre I wasn’t able to find the pace. We have to look into that now and see how we can improve the car as well as myself.”

Tom McCullough, Head of Track Engineering: “Today was about understanding how the tyres performed on track, and optimising the car set-up around those. It’s clear from today’s running we still have a lot of work to do on the Soft tyre for low fuel performance, and also the management on a long stint. We were much happier with how the car performed on the Medium tyre, especially on the longer runs, which gives us confidence for the race. Our homework for tonight is to get more out of the car with the soft tyre. Esteban struggled with the lack of overall grip today. So we need to check the car and analyse the data so that we understand where this is coming from.”<<source>>

F1 2013 Classic Tires

Here's a new mod for F1 2013 ™ by Codemasters. This mod brings you simulation of Classic cars tire wear during the race and contains two variations  - Dark and Clear.

The mod displays worn tires based on age and durability of each tire, very different from working with Pirelli until now, because in the 80's the wear was minimal, contains tires 90's too!

Pirelli previews the Indian Grand Prix at Buddh International Circuit

India, added to the Formula 1 calendar in 2011, features some sweeping elevation changes and a wide variety of corners, making it a truly spectacular venue that works the tyres hard, especially given the high ambient temperatures. After two years of nominating the Hard and the Soft compound at the Buddh circuit, this year Pirelli has opted to nominate the P Zero White Medium tyre together with the P Zero Yellow Soft tyre.

Paul Hembery: “We’ve decided to go for the P Zero White Medium and P Zero Yellow Soft tyres in India this year, which we think will be the best combination for the Buddh circuit and lead to closer racing. For the last two years running we’ve actually gone for the Hard and Soft compounds, which might have been slightly on the conservative side, so this year we’ve gone for a softer and slightly more aggressive choice. As a result, just like the last race in Japan, we’re not expecting to see a particularly big variation in lap times between the two compounds. Consequently, the strategies [of the teams] made a very big difference in Japan and this should be the same in India. We only had one pit stop per car in India last year, but this year we would expect two – which also provides the drivers and teams with more opportunities to make up places. With varying elevations and a wide variety of corners India provides the tyres with quite a test, as there are forces coming from all directions, so tyre management will once again prove to be important. As usual, it should be very warm in India, which increases thermal degradation as well. This looks set to be a decisive race for the Championship so we hope that our tyre choice will help to make it a memorable contest with high-quality racing.” <<Read More>>
